Barry Allen Barge

June 12, 1954 — August 10, 2024

Omaha

Barry Allen Barge, 70, Omaha, NE passed away Saturday, August 10th, 2024 in Omaha, NE following a long battle with Renal Cell Carcinoma (Kidney) with his family by his side. Per Barry’s wishes, he has been cremated and will be laid to rest at Omaha National Cemetery with full Military Honors by Millard American Legion Post #374 and Millard VFW 2503, United States Marines Corps & Patriot Guard Riders.

Barry was born June 12, 1954, in Sioux City, Iowa to Eugene and Marilyn (Bahr) Barge. He grew up in Dakota City, NE. He was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout. He was a member of the Dakota City United Methodist Church. He attended Dakota City, NE and South Sioux City Public Schools before he joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1971 and was stationed at Camp Pendleton and Okinawa. The week before going to Vietnam, orders were changed, and his unit remained in Okinawa for the rest of his tour. His Marine Corps time ended with the rank of Cpl. with a medical discharge. He later attended Wayne State College. He was a former member of the Dakota City American Legion Post #376 and also a member of the DAV Elkhorn #49 since 2020 (Disabled American Veterans).

After the Marine Corps, he traveled to Turkey and Syria as a civilian contractor and then lived in California for several years before moving to Omaha in 1985.

Barry was a true entrepreneur and when he made up his mind that he wanted to pursue something, he did. There were few things that Barry could not fix or build. He worked in construction most of his life. He owned his own construction company where he remodeled bathrooms and basements and installed siding and windows. He then took an interest in Wedding Videography but that wasn’t enough, and he became a Certified American Guild Court Videographer. When his knees gave out, he got the bug for Screen Printing and embroidering T-Shirts, hats and other items and as if that wasn't enough, he was also a licensed pilot! He always taught himself and became an expert in all he did. If you knew Barry well, he was either all in or all out, there was no in between. Barry could be sharp and quick tempered but would do anything for any of his friends and loved ones. That is how he lived his life.

Barry is survived by his daughter, Christy (Melissa) Barge and granddaughter Haisley of Papillion, NE; Sisters, Belinda “Bea” (Barge) Houck and Bridget K. (Barge) Ladely; Niece, Chance Frank, all of Omaha, NE; Great-Nephew, Zane Frank (Alyssa King), Kearney, NE and Great-Niece Zoe Frank (Matthew Rowe), and Great Great-nephew Layne Frank-Rowe, all of Papillion, NE; Aunt Valda (Marvin) Young, Creighton, NE; Uncles Marvin “Moe” Barge, Council Bluffs, IA; Larry Barge, Kansas City, MO; and Timothy (Marilyn) Bahr, Dakota City, NE many cousins and friends including special friends, Nik & Lacy, Wyatt, Shane & Libby Hanssen and Dayton & Heather Seidenglanz.
