Bridget Alice Peterson known to many as Granny, was born February 28, 1931, in Ottumwa, South Dakota to James Gillaspie and Margaret Ball Gillaspie. She passed away peacefully on April 1, 2025, in Omaha, Nebraska. Alice spent her childhood in South Dakota before moving to Omaha in her high school years where she graduated from Omaha Technical High in 1949. Alice met and married Frendy Jay “Pete” Peterson in April 1954.
Alice worked the majority of her adult life at Mainliner Motor Company in Omaha. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren and baking. She was known for many things including the best chocolate cake, Christmas cookies, cinnamon rolls and pralines.
Alice was preceded in death by her son Bobby Gillaspie, her parents, her sisters Mary Ellen and Margaret, and brothers John “Buddy” and Jim.
She is survived by her sister Cathy Lullo of Gwinn, Michigan, son Rick Peterson of Bellevue, NE, daughter Theresa Grgurich and husband Pete of Bellevue, son Danny Peterson and wife Leslie of Aledo, TX, daughter Kathy Johnson of Bellevue and daughter Kim Rowe and husband Dave of Papillion.
Grandchildren: Keith Grgurich and wife Tia, Kris Grgurich and wife Kelsy, Kelsie Ryba and husband Dalton, Tarren Peterson, Holly Peterson, Megan Reed and husband TJ, Nick Johnson, Makenna Rowe, and Jordan Rowe.
Great grandchildren: Parker, Laney Jo and Barrett Ryba, Madison and Collins Reed and Luka Grgurich.
After following her husband’s career in the military, retirement and divorce she nannied for several families including longtime friends of the family. Olivia and Sophia, you will always be her bonus grandchildren. Granny was the person who neighbors came to with difficulties, her presence was a constant stabilizing force both in the neighborhood we grew up in and in our family.
We will miss her dearly but celebrate with gratitude her long and remarkable life.
