Jerry Dell Harris, February 6, 1940 – January 23, 2025
Jerry was born in Kearney, Nebraska on February 6, 1940. He graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1961 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He married his Kearney High School sweetheart, Patricia (Patty) Foster, on August 14, 1960. They moved to Omaha after graduation where Jerry was employed by Northwestern Bell Telephone, which later became U.S. West before he retired in 1996.
Jerry was a “lefty” when batting and golfing in his spare time passions. After playing baseball for UNL, he was known as “coach” for many of his children’s youth baseball and softball teams. He was also a player for AAA Omaha baseball and several church league softball teams. In addition, Jerry dedicated many hours to church administration jobs and teaching adult Sunday School classes.
Jerry is survived by Patty, his wife of 64 years; children Dan (Cheryl) Harris, Cindy (Dan) Stevens and Rebecca (Ed) Reiss; grandchildren Patrick, Brian and Alison Harris, Benjamin (Anna) Stevens, and Margaret and Kathryn Reiss; and great-grandchildren Joshua, Michael, Ella and Chloe Stevens. He is also survived by brothers, Dr. Randall (Cilla) Harris of Columbus, Ohio and Timothy (Vicky) Harris of Lincoln, Nebraska. He is preceded in death by parents, Dell and Glee Harris.
A service honoring Jerry’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 7, 2025, at Christ Community Church, 404 S. 108th Ave in Omaha, Nebraska, with a luncheon following the service.
