John Vernon Laux was born on September 2, 1941, in Le Mars, Iowa. He passed away on October 26, 2024, in Omaha, NE at the age of 83. He was the beloved son of Vernon and Lucille (Bethke) Laux. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army.
John graduated from Le Mars high school. He furthered his education and graduated from The University of Iowa. He became a highly respected businessman in his communities.
He married the love of his life, Maurine Frances Borchers on May 4, 1963. Together they built a family and eventually settled in Columbus, Nebraska. They lived and taught their family with a strong Christian foundation. Simply put…God, family, friends and community were the principles they lived by.
John’s sense of humor was enjoyed by many. He was the “life of the party”. Combined with his great wisdom and sincere compassion made him compelling to the people around him. He was able to use these traits to impact so many people in a positive way.
We will take his example with us as a guide through our own journeys, hoping to touch the lives of the people around us just as he did.
It is our belief that John has joined his dear wife, Maurine, and all his family and friends who passed before him. This brings us great comfort.
John has battled health issues for about a year. He was able to live his life out as he had always hoped. Jason was the reason he could be at home until just several days before he passed. His family and friends also assisted in making sure John got to participate in life’s activities.
Four days after his passing, his great granddaughter (Ginny Maurine Beck) would join him. It also brings us a great deal of comfort knowing she had a full welcoming committee from both the Laux’s and Beck’s. We know she is being loved and cared for by the very best!
Dad, you were an amazing son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to so many! For now, we will miss you terribly. But only until we meet again.
John is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Cooley and son-in-law Jeff Cooley. Son; Jason Laux. Grandchildren; Sarah and John Beck, Rachel Wilson, Jamie and Justin Cooley. Great grandchildren: Macy, Maddy and Gage Cooley. Sister-in-law Spridulla Poplasky, Brother-in-law and sister-in-law Lloyd and Loraine Borchers, Sister-in-law Inez Borchers and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Vernon and Lucille (Bethke) Laux. His wife; Maurine (Borchers) Laux. His Brothers; Bob and Don Grant. Sister-in-law; Rosemary Grant. Brother-in-law; Myron Borchers.
