Steven Robert Wiemeyer

March 9, 1950 — February 16, 2025

Steven R. Wiemeyer, 74, of Papillion, NE, went to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 16, 2025. He passed peacefully and painlessly from pancreatic cancer.

Steven was born to Howard and Ruth Wiemeyer in San Diego, California, and was the older brother to his sister Maureen.

He is survived by his wife, Debra Wiemeyer; his son, Mark Wiemeyer, and his wife Val, along with their two children, Laney and Brody, of Lincoln, Nebraska; and his daughter, Julie Stagno, and her husband Jason of Simi Valley, California.

Steven and Debra were married for 52 years. They met and married in Sacramento, CA, and started their family in Southern Oregon.

Steven’s love for the outdoors led him to earn a degree from Sacramento State University, setting the foundation for his first career with Oregon State Parks. Starting as a Parks Manager Assistant, he worked his way up to State Parks Manager, serving in various locations across Oregon, including Bend, Eugene, New Pine Creek, Medford, and back to Bend, over the span of 20 years.

Later in life, Steven answered God's call to move to Omaha, Nebraska, where he began his second career at Grace University. He served the university for 20 years, first as Facilities Manager, then transitioning to human resources and benefits. During this time, he completed his Master’s Degree in Biblical Studies while working full-time. He was eager to teach after graduation but was unable to due to health challenges.

In his early 50s, Steven was diagnosed with a tumor on his vocal cords, which led to a complete laryngectomy and a loss of his voice. Despite this, he remained dedicated to serving the Lord, even teaching himself esophageal speech. Steven also pastored a small church part-time in Woodbine, Iowa, for many years, living a faithful life for Jesus.

Steven enjoyed many outdoor activities, including hunting, fishing, hiking, mountain and road biking, motorcycle riding, and running. However, his greatest passion was studying the Word of God and spending time in prayer.

He often wore a hat that said “Jesus Christ” on the front and “I Love Jesus” on the back, sparking conversations with many. He was always ready to talk to anyone about his faith.

Steven will be remembered most for his deep love for the Lord, his unwavering commitment to sharing Christ’s love, and the lasting impact he made on the Kingdom of God. His legacy is one of faithful service to God, his family, and his friends.

In honor of Steve donations can be made to Lifeline Global Ministries. The Returning Hearts Celebration. Where children and their inmate fathers can begin to allow God’s healing and reconciliation in their lives.
